FAQs

what kind of health issues can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture specializes in treating complex, chronic conditions like the burning pain of sciatica, the pins and needles of peripheral neuropathy, fertility challenges, low back pain, migraines, long covid, fibromyalgia, menopause, and more.

How should I prepare for my first appointment?

  • Schedule your appointment so that you don’t need to rush out immediately after the treatment. For some people, it can take 5-10 minutes to feel alert after acupuncture.

  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that easily allows access to forearms, lower legs, and abdomen.

  • Eat a light meal beforehand, avoiding any intoxicants and stimulants (alcohol, drugs, coffee, soda, cigarettes).

  • Bring any updated medical information, including test results, and medication changes.

How many treatments will it take?

It is different for every patient, but generally speaking a least give it 3-10 treatments depending on condition. It will depend on if the condition is more acute or chronic, age, body sensitivity, and diet and overall life style.

Will the needles hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and sterile, so most people feel little to no discomfort when they're inserted. You might feel a slight prick, or a dull ache or tingling sensation when the needle reaches the correct depth. However, if you feel severe or sharp pain, you should tell your acupuncturist, who can adjust the needles or choose other points.

How many treatments will I need per week?

It will depend on if the condition is more acute or chronic. If a patient would like to see quicker results it can be helpful in the beginning to come 1-3 times a week, and once a more harmonious balance within the body is reached, then a schedule of 1 to 2 times a month for overall wellbeing is recommended.

What is auricular acupuncture?

Auricular acupuncture, or ear acupuncture, is a type of acupuncture that involves stimulating specific areas of your ear. The ear is a microsystem of the body, and all things that can be treated with body acupuncture can also be treated through the ear such as anxiety, pain, and insomnia, etc. Auricular acupuncture is most commonly known for the NADA protocol used to help treat addiction, as well as battle field protocol for pain and PTSD.
